What can you say about Peter Hook and the Light? The incarnations of this group are many, but I wouldn’t trade anything for this version. Two bassists: Hooky and his son, Jack. And David Potts from Monaco; a great guitarist and vocalist. And let’s face it. Pottsy sounds a lot like Bernard Sumner… probably more than even Barney himself does now.
I’ve never seen Joy Division, New Order, or The Light before. So, seeing a 70-year-old Peter Hook still bouncing around the stage, taking great delight in playing tracks from every Project he’s been a major part of was an honor. I was fully expecting him, having been on tour nonstop for quite a while now, to show a slight amount of exhaustion. That was not the case.
Although I was a bit disappointed that Blue Monday and Dead Souls were left of, you really can’t be picky when a living legend is gracing you with a live version of the same songs that influenced so much of the music we hear today.
I mean… What’s better than hearing Love Will Tear Us Apart close a concert, performed by one of the people who helped create it? And to hear it at the legendary 930 club. What better a place for a DC kid?
